About us
The Language Center of the University of Bern supports students, researchers, and staff in developing competences in their two main working languages, German and English.As a unit of the Vice-Rectorate International and Academic Careers, we are a central service that caters to the entire university. We advance academic careers and research by developing English communication skills such as scientific writing, presentation, and discussion.
The position offered is 30% permanent and 15% temporary.
Tasks
- Design and teach a range of EAP and ESP courses at CEFR levels B2-C2 with a focus on the natural sciences and academic writing
- Prepare and share teaching materials
- Use online platforms for teaching
- Provide individual consultations to doctoral students
- Network and market the academic English offering
- Perform sundry duties such as marking and participating in team meetings and teacher training.
Requirements
- Native or native-like speaker with a PhD in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or related fields (candidates with an MA will be considered)
- Teacher training qualification (DELTA, teacher training diploma, or similar)
- A minimum of 3 years of experience teaching EAP and ESP at university level focusing on the natural sciences and academic writing
- Solid IT skills and active engagement with AI in the classroom
- Team-oriented person with good working German (B2)
- Swiss or EU citizenship
